Wild Margins
The grass is high and the hedgerows are heavy with ripening berries, and on a hot summer's afternoon the wild margin, that untidy strip where the field gives way to the woods, is the busiest place there is. Butterflies lift from the seedheads, bees work their way through the wild flowers, and the tall grasses lean and sway in the breeze.
This collection began on a walk through the fields behind the woods near my home. I carried the foraged finds back to the studio and drew them by hand, in ink, from what was actually there.
